English Language and Literacy, ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Social and Communication Skills
At Melting Pot Project, we will aim to provide fun, friendly and free opportunities to learn, practise and improve English Language, Literacy, Social and Communication Skills and to increase chances of employability in the UK.
How?
By reaching out to refugee networks, parents/carers, schools, school admissions authorities, Alternative Provisions, over-subscribed adult education providers, County Councils and Borough Councils in the target service areas, Job Centres, adults in need of literacy support and offering tailor-made 1:1 and small group tuition.
By offering a nurturing and inclusive approach in both formal and informal settings to a variety of age groups.
By ensuring that delivery of such tuition is innovative and well differentiated to suit the needs of each individual, each group or industry. Recruitment of like-minded and experienced/aspiring tutors and volunteers will be key to this process. Equally important will be the use of flexible, family friendly, non-conventional and diverse environments for tuition, both face to face and online which at the same time will take safeguarding into consideration.
Study, Employability, Work and Life Skills & Social Mobility
Our work helps to enable individuals of any age to develop skills to progress into employment, volunteering and further learning opportunities within Melting Pot Project and elsewhere.
How?
By sharing course and/or career advice and ideas and teaching individuals how to carry out course and job searches independently.
By providing motivational talks/workshops, encouragement, guidance and voluntary work experience to job seekers, school leavers and those in need of confidence building. To help build resilience and self-belief.
By liaising with and/or referring to other voluntary organisations, Volunteer Centres, colleges, training providers, organisations and companies who may be able to offer opportunities.
Mental and Physical Wellbeing and Social Cohesion
Our aim is also to help prevent feelings of isolation and loneliness and to promote mental and physical wellbeing
Melting Pot Project will strive to unite communities through education, integration and by facilitating friendship.
Melting Pot Project addresses the need to improve social cohesion and mutual respect.
How?
By organising and making referrals to social clubs, groups and events, activity days, ‘chit chat’ sessions, mental wellbeing and physical wellbeing groups and clubs (e.g. running clubs, boxing clubs, self-defence classes, art therapy etc.)
By sourcing and providing kitchen facilities to hotel-based refugees to allow them to cook some of their much-loved native dishes for family, friends and staff. This will help prevent feelings of homesickness and make them feel more at home from time to time.
By liaising with faith leaders, community/social group leaders, schools, alternative provisions and care homes to promote relevant and tailor-made educational workshops which promote acceptance, equality and diversity.
By building a friendship or ‘Buddy’ scheme for those most isolated and in need of some company.
By discussing, defining and agreeing on goals and values with all stakeholders, including service users.
By offering training and development or finding alternative provision and solutions.
By encouraging team-building.
By increasing communication through open discourse opportunities and external engagement and collaboration.
By building trust.
By celebrating diversity and success together.

SEN
Supporting and advocating for individuals with Special Educational Needs and their parents/carers, whether formally diagnosed or not.
How?
By providing a hub and helpline for anyone not yet accessing support due to long waiting lists or lack of information about what is available to them.
By acting as an IAG centre and referral body to organisations that can assist.
By providing SEN awareness workshops to schools, community groups, employers, professionals, parents/carers.
Safeguarding & Sustainability
Ensuring all involved have enhanced DBS checks and offering a DBS Service.
How?
By ensuring all staff and volunteers have been carefully vetted by way of an Enhanced DBS check prior to commencing any work-based activities with Melting Pot Project Community Interest Company Ltd and by becoming, in time, a DBS umbrella organisation and conducting own checks. Creating revenue by adding a small admin charge for processing DBS checks for other organisations or individuals.
